The Patek Philippe Ref. 5078 was first produced in 2005 as the larger iteration of the Ref. 3979 which was produced from 1989 until 1998. Patek Philippe minute repeaters are arguably the most sought-after complication by this maker, as each repeater undergoes the most rigorous testing and sound mapping analysis in a sound-proof chamber before final presentation to Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe, whose final approval must be obtained before the watch leaves the workshop.
The present example of the Ref. 5078P is no exception. Within the 38mm platinum case beats the automatic calibre R 27 PS with a minute repeater chiming on two gongs - despite the Ref. 5078's complexity, the movement is only 5.05mm thick. The minute repeater is activated on-demand through a discreetly positioned slide in the case. Also subtle and sophisticated, the white enamel dial with black Roman numerals offers its wearer the understated-style for which Patek Philippe is world-renowned.
