Style of Ogawa Haritsu (Ritsuo), 18th century
The roiro ground lacquered and inlaid with part of a sailing boat and wind-blown reeds, in gold and red takamaki-e, gilded pewter, bone and shell, the bevelled edges with formalised waves in gold hiramaki-e and red lacquer, the interior of roiro, inlaid with three shells in glazed pottery and shell; fitted with a suzuri (ink-stone) and a suiteki (water-dropper) of white-glazed pottery, in the form of two Rinpa-style chidori (plovers); signed with an inlaid pottery seal Kan. 6cm x 22.2cm (2 3/8in x 8¾in). (4).

The work is probably by Mochizuki Hanzan (circa 1743-1790), the foremost follower of Ritsuo, and is very much in the tradition of his predecessor.
