An important pair of Baccarat caviar dishes or bowls, circa 1850

The wide dish- or saucer-shaped rims set on bulb-like bases, both in clear crystal glass inset with individual spaced millefiori canes, each bowl with sixteen canes linked by wheel-engraved trailing foliage, the bases with eight further canes also linked by engraved undulating foliage, 16cm and 16.3cm diam at the rim (2)

A Baccarat millefiori goblet of the same technique was in the Wolfgang Meixner Collection sold by Bonhams on 3 November 2016, lot 73. This matched another goblet set in a very similar Paris silver foot exhibited by Glass Gallery Michael Kovacek, Glass of Five Centuries (1990), p.257, fig.230b. A Baccarat beaker vase with similar decoration is illustrated by Paul Hollister, Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights (1969), p.81, fig.65.
