A Whieldon type teapot and cover, circa 1765-70

Of globular form with a scrolled handle, moulded in relief with the 'Basket and Pineapple' design, the potted pineapple plant surrounded by scrollwork and reserved on a ground of fine vertical flutes, a scrolled border below the rim, 13cm high (2)

Footnotes

The 'Basket and Pineapple' design was made at several different factories including William Greatbatch. A very similar example to the present lot is in the British Museum, there attributed to Josiah Wedgwood in partnership with Thomas Whieldon, this attribution on the basis of the brilliant glazes also seen on this teapot. See Aileen Dawson, Masterpieces of Wedgwood (1984), pp.13-15
