A Meissen tureen and cover from the 'Red Dragon' service, circa 1740-50

Each painted in iron-red and gilding with dragons and auspicious symbols and two phoenixes, the domed cover with a finial in the form of a cockerel perched on a tree-stump, 15.8cm high; diam. of tureen: 16.7cm, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue, impressed 3 (very minor restoration to finial) (2)

The 1764 inventory of the Dresden court kitchen lists circular tureens with cockerel finials in two sizes (pub..by J. Weber, Meißener Porzellane mit Dekoren nach ostasiatischen Vorbildern, vol. I (2013), p. 149).
