A Meissen teapot, circa 1730

Of lobed shape, painted in Kakiemon style with a flowering branch on one side and a Phoenix in flight on the other, 10.8cm high, crossed swords mark in blue enamel (cover missing)

Footnotes

One of the large quantity of Meissen copies of mostly Japanese porcelain made for the Paris merchant, Lemaire, most of which was subsequently confiscated and stored in the Japanese Palace, Dresden. A cup and saucer of this type also made for Lemaire and with a Japanese Palace inventory number was sold in these Rooms, 14 June 2017, lot 88.
