A Meissen circular stand or plate, circa 1728

Finely painted with four chinoiserie scenes around the rim within gilt scrollwork cartouches embellished with Böttger lustre and iron-red and purple scrollwork and divided by gilt foliate scrollwork enclosing oval gilt and Böttger lustre medallions, the centre with a 'salami' motif of chrysanthemums reserved against iron-red foliage, enclosed by a band of gilt and Böttger lustre trellis panels and foliate scrollwork, the reverse with branches of indianische Blumen, 21.5cm diam., crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue

Six similar plates or stands were in the Franz and Margarete Oppenheimer Collection, and subsequently in collections of Fritz Mannheimer and Maurice de Rothschild; of these, four were subsequently in a Zürich private collection sold by Christie's London, 11 December 2007, lots 21-24. Another example was in the Darmstädter and subsequently Hoffmeister collection (D. Hoffmeister, Meissener Porzellan des 18. Jahrhunderts, vol. I (1999), no. 54), and two are in the Dresden porcelain collection.
