A pair of Meissen groups of Sultans seated on an elephant and a rhinoceros, late 19th century

After the 18th century model by J.J. Kaendler and P. Reinicke, both seated on tasselled green cushions, the sultan on the rhinoceros wearing a turban, a turquoise coat, floral jacket and purple trousers, the sultan on the elephant wearing a striped turban style hat, floral long coat and a turquoise overcoat, holding a sceptre, a servant seated in front of him, 16cm high, crossed swords mark in underglaze-blue and one cancellation mark to both, incised model numbers 1692 and 1165, impressed numerals and painter's numerals (some damage and old repairs) (2)
