Provenance:
Acquired by Françoise de Châlus-Sensac, duchesse de Narbonne-Lara, on 30 August 1781;
European Private Collection

Françoise de Châlus-Sensac, duchesse de Narbonne-Lara, purchased a dinner and dessert service in August 1781 and a supplement accompanied by teawares, including 24 gobelets litron, in November of the same year. The decoration of the service was described as Frize de Viellard and was probably designed by him, see David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century (2005), 81-9, III, pp. 637 and 643.

Françoise de Châlus was married to Don Jean François, 1er duc de Narbonne-Lara, a member of the Spanish entourage for Louise Élisabeth of France who married Philip, Duke of Parma. She served for ten years as lady-in-waiting for Louise Élisabeth and later as lady-in-waiting and eventually dame d'honneur to Madame Adelaide. In 1755 she gave birth to her son Louis, comte de Narbonne-Lara, who it was rumoured was the biological child of Louis XV.
