A pair of Meissen candlesticks allegorical of Winter and Spring, mid 18th century

Each stem moulded with gilt-edged rocailles and applied with leafy branches or flowers surmounted by a sconce moulded with puce-edged acanthus, Winter with a bearded man and a putto wearing fur-lined robes, a fire between them, Spring with a lady wearing draperies painted with indianische Blumen and a putto holding flowers, the bases moulded with gilt-edged scrollwork and Spring applied with leaves and flowers, 29.5cm high, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue to the rears of the bases (some old restoration and chips) (2)
