A rare Frankenthal model of a bird pecking a nut, circa 1756-57

Modelled by J.W. Lanz, the plumage painted in shades of yellow and grey, the base applied with leaves and grass and painted in shades of green, 9cm high, rampant lion mark in underglaze-blue to rear edge of base, impressed PH and 3 (minor damage and repair to tips of feathers)

Footnotes

According to a Brussels price list of the Frankenthal manufactory under Joseph Adam Hannong, models of birds were offered in three different price categories and sizes, the largest costing almost twice as much as the smallest (B. Beaucamp-Markowsky, Frankenthaler Porzellan, vol. I (2008), p. 145).
