Gloria Walker and Seth Milliken were destined to spend their lives together. They met at a dance in New York City. Despite arriving separately with different dates they left together and were inseparable ever since. Their story was one of opposites attract: he was from an old New York textile family and she was from an immigrant family with roots in Trinidad and Europe. Seth was an America's Cup racer and lifelong sailor. The shape of the marquise diamond reminded him of a boat combining his two loves: Gloria and sailing.
Gloria's activism began in 1964 when she started the Hundred Worst Buildings program in East Harlem. Over the next 40 years she aided in the foundation of many successful non-profit groups, virtually all of which are still in operation today. Several include: The New York Women's Foundation, the Maine Women's Fund and Adopt-a Building.
