Footnotes

Caroline Campbell was the daughter and first born child of John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll and Jane Warburton. Their eldest, Henry, became the 3rd Duke of Buccleuch upon his grandfather's death in 1751. She married secondly, in 1755, Charles Townshend (a son of the 3rd Viscount Townshend) and the couple had a daughter the following year. In 1767, Caroline was created Baroness Greenwich in her own right (her late father was the Duke of Greenwich) and the title became extinct upon her death.
