A George IV 18 carat gold-topped walking cane

with maker's mark of WD; possibly for William Duncan, London 1829
The mahogany cane of tapering form surmounted by the profusely embossed handle which is engraved with an inscription relating to Hartford House, Natal, length 78.5cm.

Footnotes

Hartford House was the family home of Sir Frederick Moor, the last Prime Minister of the colony of Natal, a province of South Africa up until 1994.

It was thought of as one of the country's most beautiful homes, situated on South Africa's most famous stud farm and is now a luxury hotel.
