Of circular form on four shell and scroll feet, with engraved border of shells, c-scrolls and flowerheads, centred by the arms for BEAUCLERK, Dukes of St. ALBANS., diameter 30cm, weight 40oz.

engraved with the arms for Beaclerk,Dukes of St. Albans. Charles Stuart acknowledged fatherhood of a number of illegitimate children and this one, Charles Beauclerk by Nell Gwyn[ne], was made Duke of St Albans in 1684 and granted the shield of his royal father differenced by an oblique baton charged with three roses. The other accoutrements e.g. motto, supporters, crest, are specific to the Dukes of St Albans - still extant.
