A very fine Nimschke signed and engraved .44 (R.F.) 'Model 1866' lever-action saddle-ring carbine by Winchester, no. 25776 (circa 1869)
The 'Third Model' brass receiver engraved with bold foliate-scrollwork on a stippled background, the right side-plate with inscription scroll engraved April 12. 1870., the left side-plate with a vignette of an American eagle and shield, signed L.D.N. in the borderwork, the top of the receiver later stamped W. L. Sewell, July 20. 1895, West Palm Beach, Fla., retaining some gilt finish, the left side of lower tang blank, the last four digits of serial number "5776" are found in the top tang channel of buttstock and inside of butt-plate, the figured stock with brass butt-plate and trap engraved en suite, the barrel engraved Winchester's-Repeating Arms.
