A fine deluxe factory engraved .44 (R.F.) 'Model 1866' lever-action saddle-ring carbine by Winchester, no. 97871DA (circa 1872)

The 'Third Model' silver-plated brass receiver with bold foliate-scrollwork engraving in the Ulrich style, the right side-plate engraved with vacant medallion, the front flat with a vignette of running buck, the left side-plate engraved with Fabricado para Col. Leopold Nelson Inspector General de las Fuerzas 'de Santa Fe' Republica Argentina Americas Del Sud por La Compania De Armas Winchester', translated to Manufactured for Col. Leopold Nelson, Inspector General of the forces of Santa Fe of the Republic of Argentina of South America from the Winchester Arms Company, the front flat with vacant medallion, with much silver-plated finish, matching serial number is found in the top tang channel of buttstock and inside of butt-plate, well-figured deluxe stock (faint hairline cracks to rear of tang) with silver-plated butt-plate engraved en suite with trap (and three-piece cleaning rod), ring and staple, the barrel stamped Winchester's-Repeating-Arms. New Haven. CT. King's-Improvement-Patented-March 29.1866.October 16.1860 with full-length magazine-tube, barrel band foresight and folding non-adjustable leaf-sight
