An engraved .44 (R.F.) 'Model 1866' lever-action rifle by Winchester, no. 121474 (circa 1874)

The 'Third Model' brass receiver engraved with bold foliate-scrollwork on a stippled background, the right side-plate with a vacant scroll banner, the left side with a leaping stag and swimming dog, elevator with cross-chequered pattern and engraved scalloped oval with ribbon, likely the work of L. D. Nimschke or his workshop, the left side of lower tang stamped "R", no assembly number found in the top tang channel of buttstock and "1474" inside of butt-plate, the figured stock (probably replacement, with glued split to rear of top tang and small split at toe) with brass butt-plate and trap, sling-swivels, the forestock (probably replacement) with brass cap engraved en suite, the octagonal barrel stamped Winchester's-Repeating Arms.
