A .44-40 'Model 1873' lever-action rifle by Winchester, no. 80770 (dated 1881)

Customised, the 'Second Model' receiver with dust-cover and rail, engraved with bold foliate-scrollwork on a stippled ground, the hammer and lever engraved en suite, the dust-cover engraved 'JGB' surrounding a masonic square and compass and flanked by columns, bright finish, the hammer and guard with blued finish, the chequered and well-figured stock with steel butt-plate and trap, forestock-cap all engraved en suite, the octagonal barrel engraved Winchester's-Repeating Arms.New haven.CT. King's-Improvement-Patented-March-29 29.1866.October.16.1860 with full-length magazine tube, with Lyman fore-sight and sporting style rear-sight with adjustable centre insert.
