An engraved .44-40 'Model 1892' lever-action take-down rifle by Winchester, no. 28347 (dated 1894)
The receiver custom-engraved with bold foliate-scrollwork on a stippled ground, with gold inlaid scroll borderwork, the lever and take-down ring engraved en suite, the right side with a vignette of a grizzly bear in its natural surroundings, the left side with a vignette of a white-tail buck grazing in its natural surroundings, and a Rocky Mountain goat bust in a medallion in front of the lever, the top tang engraved Model 1892. -Winchester- Pat. Oct 14. 1884., tapped for a tang sight, the well-figured stock with chequered pistol-grip with hard rubber cap, chequered butt with blued steel heel- and toe-plates, the chequered forend with blued steel cap engraved en suite with gold inlaid scroll border, the blued octagonal barrel engraved Manufactured by the -Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven. Conn. U.S.A.- with full-length magazine-tube, nickel blade sporting foresight and sporting buckhorn rear-sight with adjustable centre insert
