A customised .38-55 'Model 55' lever-action take-down rifle by Winchester, no. 3714 (dated 1925)

The receiver retaining full re-blued finish, later engraved with bold foliate-scrollwork on a stippled background with gold inlaid scroll borders, the hammer, lever and receiver ring engraved en suite, the right side with a gold-encrusted grizzly bear signed L Sherman, the left side with a gold-encrusted hunting scene, the top tang drilled and tapped for a sight and stamped Winchester Trade Mark Made In U.S.A., the chequered highly-figured replacement stock carved with foliage and ornate borderwork, with pistolgrip with skeletal steel cap engraved en suite and steel butt-plate, sling-eyes, the figured replacement forend carved en suite with cap engraved en suite with gold inlaid border-scrolls, the round barrel stamped Model 55 Winchester Trade Mark Nickel Steel 38-55 W on the right side, Made In The U.S.A. Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven. Conn. with silver and gold inlaid barrel bands and engraved en suite at muzzle and breech ends, half-length magazine-tube stamped Pat. June 6. 1893, fixed-blade foresight and sporting rear-sight with adjustable centre insert
