Footnotes

The makers have kindly confirmed that the gun was completed in 1919 as number 1 of a pair for H. C. Bowen, ordered by his brother-in-law General Sir Alexander Cobbe, VC, GCB, KCSI, DSO. Sir Alexander Cobbe was born in India in 1870 and commissioned as an officer in 1889. He won his Victoria Cross at the Battle of Erigo in East Africa in 1902 for operating a Maxim machine-gun single-handedly and rescuing a wounded man under heavy enemy fire. His extensive medal collection can be found on display at the South Wales Borderers Museum in Brecon, Wales.

This gun has been numbered as '3' to form a composed trio with the pair of Boss guns offered as lot 667
