A Flintlock Brass-Barrelled Blunderbuss-Pistol
By Ketland & Co., London, Late 18th Century

With slender two-stage barrel turned and belled at the muzzle, octagonal breech engraved 'London' along the top flat and punched with a line of circles at the turned girdle and at the rear of the breech, plain tang, signed border engraved flat bevelled brass lock (one side-nail replaced) with roller, figured full stock (butt broken through and with old repairs) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, border engraved brass mounts comprising ovoidal side-nail plate, vacant shield-shaped escutcheon, spurred pommel decorated with a flower-head on each side and with stepped ovoidal cap, trigger-guard (tang repaired) with acorn finial and engraved with a flower-head on the bow, brass ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped wooden ramrod, Tower private proof marks
