A 25-Bore Flintlock Pistol
By Cairns & Freaus, Circa 1770

With russet octagonal barrel with silver fore-sight and engraved with a line of beadwork at the breech, grooved engraved tang, border engraved bevelled flat lock signed in script and decorated at the stepped tail, foliate engraved cock, figured full stock (fore-end tip partly replaced on one side) with rounded butt inlaid with silver wire scallop shell and scrollwork around the barrel tang, mounts comprising border engraved bevelled side-plate decorated with a foliate swag, steel trigger-guard with acorn finial and a flower-head in a diamond on the bow, replacement lion mask butt-cap with foliate mane, later vacant white-metal escutcheon, and horn-tipped ramrod (barrel and mounts with some rust patination), Tower private proof marks
