A Cased Pair Of 40-Bore Percussion Duelling Or Target Pistols
By John Manton & Son, Patent, Dover Street, No. 6914 For 1817

Converted from flintlock, with twist octagonal sighted scratch-rifled barrels each engraved 'Dover Street' along the top flat and retaining some browning along the bottom flats at the breech (areas of rust), case-hardened breeches each engraved with foliate scrollwork on the top flats, platinum plugs each engraved with a flower-head, foliate scroll engraved tangs each with swept nipple-shield, signed border engraved case-hardened serial numbered detented locks each decorated with foliage and a part martial trophy, blued safety-catches, foliate scroll engraved dolphin hammers, serial numbered figured bird's eye maple half-stocks (minor bruising) with chequered rounded butts and horn fore-end caps, trigger-guards each retaining some original blueing and serial numbered in an oval against a martial trophy on the border engraved bow, blued trigger-plates each with pineapple finial, vacant silver escutcheons and barrel-bolt escutcheons, and original brass-tipped ramrods, the barrels, locks and stocks numbered '1' and '2' respectively: in contemporary lined and fitted mahogany case (one compartment lid missing) with some accessories including Bartram & Co. brass-mounted copper revolver flask (cut-off spring broken) and combined loading rod and mallet, the exterior of the lid (minor staining) with circular vacant brass escutcheon
