An Irish Brass-Barrelled Flintlock Blunderbuss
By R. Whitney, Corke, Mid-18th Century

With two-stage barrel flared at the muzzle, the breech section engraved 'Corke' in script in front of a panel of foliage and stamped with Irish registration mark 'CB-1550' of Cork Borough, engraved tang, signed border engraved rounded lock (light pitting), full stock (fore-stock with old repairs) carved with foliage around the tang (chipped on one side), brass mounts comprising side-plate cast, chased and pierced with foliage centred on a cartouche, vacant foliate escutcheon, border engraved butt-plate decorated with a flower-head emerging from the mouth of a monster-head, border engraved trigger-guard with foliate finial and a flower-head on the bow, brass ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped ramrod, Irish proof marks
