A Pair Of Austrian 25-Bore Flintlock Pistols
Mid-18th Century

With etched twist barrels each with tapering sighting flat, inlaid with silver foliate scrolls and chiselled with foliage at the breech, tangs numbered '1' and '2' respectively, bright flat bevelled locks with blued faceted pans, top jaws, screws and steel-springs, figured moulded full stocks numbered '99' and '100' respectively above the tail of each lock-plate, and carved with rocailles and foliage behind each rear ramrod-pipe and barrel tang, rounded bird's head butts (one with old splits), brass-mounts of shaped outline comprising bevelled side-plates, vacant escutcheons, butt-caps each engraved 'No. 12', D-shaped trigger-guards, fore-end caps and faceted ramrod-pipes, blued trigger-plates and triggers, later horn-tipped ramrods, and retaining some of their original blued and burnished finish (2)
