With blued octagonal sighted tip-down barrel hinged at the breech and machined with female threads engaging with male threads on the sprung cylinder spindle, and secured in the closed position by a pivoting under-lever with chequered terminal, the latter on a hinged mount stamped 'Javelle. M St. Etienne' above 'Bte. S:G.DG.' on the button flat, blued cylinder (some light pitting), frame retaining traces of blueing, shaped trigger-guard, butt-cap stamped '74' and with lanyard ring, and highly figured rounded butt (some light pitting), British black powder proof marks

This revolver appears to be based on British Patent No. 1362 of 31 May 1861 granted to Frederich Tolhausen who was a Parisian civil engineer and patent agent who acted, in this patent, for Michel Javelle recorded at 54 Rue Beaubrun, St. Etienne between 1860 and 1880.
