A Composite German Or Austrian 28-Bore Wheel-Lock Rifle
Partly 18th Century And Later

With two-stage rifled barrel turned at the girdle and with octagonal breech, short tang, flat lock engraved with scrolls and indistinct initials 'I-H-H', sliding sprung pan-cover and pivoting flash-guard, wooden full stock (repaired either side of the tang) profusely inlaid with engraved white horn or bone hounds pursuing foxes and hares, birds, along the bottom with marine monsters, and on the cheek-piece with an armoured figure (repaired) and a martial trophy, all against a ground of engraved foliage and ball-flowers, patch-box cover faced in bone pierced with a repeated design of foliage, set trigger, steel trigger-guard indented for the fingers, ramrod-pipes mounted with bone, bone fore-end cap, and bone-tipped ramrod (barrel and lock rust patinated)
