A German Burgonet
Late 16th/Early 17th Century

Of blackened steel, with one-piece skull (interior with old surface rust patination) with high roped comb (old hole) and bordered by incised lines, and extended to form an upcurved pointed peak (tip repaired) and neck-guard each with recessed turned and roped edge, the base of the skull bordered by dome-headed lining rivets, hinged bluntly-pointed cheek-pieces (the right one expertly replaced) with main edges en suite with the peak and neck-guard, and each pierced with a circular arrangement of small holes linked to the central one by incised lines
