A Rare Viking Sword Of Petersen Type W/X
10th/11th Century

In excavated condition, with broad tapering blade tapering towards the point and with shallow central fuller over nearly its entire length over each side to the point, the fuller on one side at the forte incised with a rune mark 'XIX', hilt comprising flat ovoidal guard encircled by two inlaid silver bands decorated with 'V' and diagonal line notching, slightly tapering flat tang, and pommel of 'tea-cosy' form inlaid with silver bands en suite
76.5 cm. blade, 92.5 cm. overall
