An Italian Two-Hand Sword
First Half Of The 16th Century

With broad double-edged blade of flattened hexagonal section cut with three narrow fullers over each side of the forte extending along the rectangular ricasso, one side incised with a running wolf mark retaining traces of latten inlay, the ricasso with incised line borders and struck on one side with two cross marks, hilt comprising side-rings of circular section swelling centrally either side of a compressed moulding between slender ropework, fluted quillon-block with bevelled point over the ricasso on each side, turned baluster quillons with large button terminals, later globular pommel with punched foliate decoration (worn), and tapering cord-bound wooden grip (originally covered in leather) with central leather wrapper (damaged, scattered pitting overall)
