An English Rapier, And Another Of Duelling Type
Both Late 17th Century

The first with tapering double-edged blade retaining faint traces of incised letters on the central fuller over both sides of the forte, iron hilt comprising symmetrical shell-guard enclosing a convex plate each finely pierced with an ovoidal arrangement of small holes, fluted bud-shaped rear quillon, knuckle-guard with central moulding and secured at the top by a screw into the pommel, scrolled side-bars linking the knuckle-guard to the shell-guard, fluted drum-shaped pommel with button, and wooden grip bound with twisted copper wire (loose) between Turk's heads; the second with slender sharply tapering blade of flattened diamond section with central fuller over each side of the forte incised respectively 'Sebasteian' and 'Hernanez', iron hilt comprising symmetrical shell-guard enclosing a convex plate on each side (one missing) finely pierced with rectangular arrangements of minute holes, arms on vertically fluted quillon-block, fluted bud-shaped rear quillon (knuckle-guard missing), fluted globular pommel, and grip bound with variously twisted copper wire and ribbon between Turk's heads (both swords rust patinated)
