An English Brass-Hilted Officer's Sword
Early 18th Century

With tapering double-edged blade incised with repeated 'l' and '+' marks within the shallow fuller on each side of the forte, a running fox mark beyond, hilt comprising double shell-guard with moulded borders, one numbered 'V', knuckle-guard with central swelling and hooked into the globular pommel with flattened button, scrolled side-bars linking the knuckle-guard to the shell-guard, and grip bound with fine twisted brass wire between Turk's heads
