A William & Mary Brass-Mounted Hanger
Late 17th Century

With curved blade (some pitting) double-edged at the point and stamped on each side with a crowned king's head mark (indistinct on one side), cast and chased hilt comprising slightly downcurved side-guard with profile busts of William and Mary either side of a seated figure holding a victor's baton aloft, moulded border with a crown between fleur-de-lys on both sides, knuckle-guard en suite and hooked into the pommel-cap, lobed rear quillon with a crown on both sides, pommel-cap (minor damage) en suite with guard, and natural staghorn grip with a collar at its base
