An English Silver-Gilt Hilted Small-Sword
London Silver Hallmarks For 1752

With sharply tapering colichemarde blade (scattered light pitting) of hollow triangular section, the fore on both sides with a panel etched 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' between foliated strapwork, hilt of characteristic form cast and chased in low relief with rocailles and foliage inhabited by hounds pursuing a lion and hind on the outside of the double shell-guard and with turkeys and a peacock on the inside, all within landscapes, quillon-block with a hound on one side and a fox on the other, globular pommel with hounds in landscapes and surmounted by a button, grip bound with silver wire and ribbon, and retaining traces of original gilding
