A 1796 Pattern Light Cavalry Officer' Sabre
Circa 1800

With bright curved fullered blade double-edged at the point, the forte on both sides etched and gilt against a blued ground with pre-1801 royal arms between foliage and a martial trophy, the back etched 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen', steel regulation stirrup hilt with rounded langets, lobed rear quillon, bevelled knuckle-guard with slot for a sword-knot, rounded pommel and back-piece in one, and ribbed leather-covered grip (minor damage and old worming) bound with twisted silver wire, in its steel scabbard (minor dents and light surface pitting) with two split-rings for suspension
