An Unusual Officer's Hanger
Late 18th Century

With broad curved blade (some pitting, partly polished) double-edged towards the point and etched and gilt over half its length on each side with foliage, the bust of an armed turbaned Turk in profile and a trophy of arms above, gilt-copper mounted hilt comprising recurved quillons with lobed terminals, diamond-shaped langets cast with foliage, lion-head pommel with faceted back-piece in one, knuckle-chain, and swelling ivory grip (minor chips) chequered over each side, in original black leather scabbard with linear engraved gilt-copper mounts (some wear to gilding) and two rings for suspension, the locket with frog-stud
