An Unusual 1796 Pattern Heavy Cavalry Officer's Undress Sword, And An 1803 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword
Both Early 19th Century

The first with fullered blade (cutting-edge nicked) double-edged at the rounded tip, the back at the forte etched with bladesmith's name 'J.J. Runkel, Solingen', regulation pierced steel ladder hilt, variant pommel and faceted back-piece in one, and grooved leather-covered wooden grip (worn and wormed, wire binding missing, pitted overall); the second with curved fullered blade (pitted) double-edged at the point, regulation gilt-bronze hilt (knuckle-guard repaired and partly replaced), lion-head pommel and faceted back-piece in one, and wire-bound leather-covered grip (probably replaced) (2)
