A French Napoleon III Cavalry Helmet And A Cavalry Trooper's Cuirass
The First Circa 1870, The Cuirass Numbered 193 and 399, Dated 1849 And 1853

The first of regulation pattern, with steel skull and embossed brass mounts including crest with Medusa head at the front, the latter surmounted by a white brush in an embossed brass mount, the plate embossed with a crowned 'N' above crossed laurel branches, lion-mask bosses (chin-chain missing), plaited white horsehair plume, and red, white and blue feather plume on the left side; the second each with flanged edges bordered by hooks and rivets with domed brass heads, and retaining its brass shoulder-chains each with leather backing (one broken) and two position clasps, the interior of both plates etched with numbered Châtellerault Manufactory details, the breast-plate stamped 'V. 169 1854' on the right shoulder (some rust patination overall) (3)
