Two Rare Irish Officer's Gorgets
Late 18th Century

The first of rounded gilt-copper with turned edges, the front engraved with a crowned Irish harp within sprigs of shamrocks and surmounted by a scroll inscribed 'AMOR PARIAE INCITAT', the extensions on each side engraved with a garland of shamrocks suspended from a ribbon and inscribed respectively 'Belfast First' and 'Volunteer Company', retaining its chamois leather liner and much of its original gilding; the second of brass and of universal pattern, engraved with the full royal arms and motto beneath 'GR', the extensions each engraved with a wreath and inscribed respectively 'Belfast' and 'Volunteers' (some wear) (2)
