A Pair Of Albanian 13-Bore Flintlock Holster Pistols
19th Century, Probably Prizren

With russet barrels each gold-damascened over two thirds of their length with symmetrical meandering arabesques, the breeches each with silver-lined calligraphic barrelsmith's mark, a copper line behind, flat bevelled locks chiselled and lightly engraved with foliage, cocks and steels en suite, hardwood full stocks (slight damage beneath the locks) carved in low relief with meandering foliage, the butts covered in silver filigree set with clustered beadwork (minor losses) along back and on the side-flats, the former enriched with three red beads (probably corallium rubrum) and three nielloed silver diamonds, spurred pommels deeply cast and chased with foliage against nielloed grounds (circular pommel-caps replaced by foliate engraved ovals), steel trigger-guards each with pierced foliate finial and an inlaid brass roundel on the bow, white-metal muzzle-sleeves embossed and chased with symmetrical scrolling foliage, and embossed false ramrods; together with a brass-hilted hanger with 17th century curved blade double-edged at the point (some pitting) and fullered along the back on each side, the later hilt cast and pierced with scrollwork involving a crowned double-headed eagle between human supporters and against a ground of foliage (3)
