A Turkish Officer's Sword
The Blade Retailed By Levy, 28 King William St., Strand, London, Reign Of Abdulmecit (1839-61 A.D.)

With curved slender blade (some pitting and rust patination) double-edged to the point in front of the yelman along most of its length on each side and etched with scrolling foliage, one side involving crossed banners, and on the other with retailer's details and crowned 'VR' cypher, white-metal mameluke hilt comprising foliate engraved quillons with pointed langets and bud-shaped terminals, foliate engraved grip-strap, and carved walrus-ivory grip-scales, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather (minor damage and loss of finish) seamed with silver threads along the inside, and with border engraved white-metal locket and chape, suspension mounts each pierced and chased with a flower-head on both sides, and two suspension rings
