Two Indian Katars
17th/18th Century

The first with tapering double-edged blade of finely watered wootz steel with brightly polished point of flattened diamond section, recessed on each side of the forte (edges reduced due to resharpening) and chiselled with an elephant and mahout with gold-damascened details, russet hilt decorated with differing designs of gold-damascened repeated flower-heads over the opposing sides of the fluted side-bars, and faceted swelling grips en suite (some wear), in later wooden scabbard covered in yellow velvet and retaining the original chape gold-damascened en suite with the hilt; the second with tapering double-edged blade of finely watered wootz steel cut with converging fullers and a medial ridge over each side, bright cutting-edges and point of diamond section, and characteristic russet hilt gold-damascened with repeated designs of flower-heads in a similar fashion to the last, in later wooden scabbard covered in yellow velvet (2)
