Six Various Edged Weapons
Mostly 19th Century

Comprising a Finnish cavalry officer's sword with curved fullered blade etched with retailer's details 'F. Biegeloar, Rotterdam' on a scroll on one side of the forte, regulation white-metal hilt cast with foliage including a border of laurel around the pommel, and ribbed wire-bound dark horn grip, in its white-metal scabbard with two suspension rings; a French ANXI cuirassier's sword, no. 256, dated 1830, of regulation pattern, the back of the blade indistinctly etched with dated Klingenthal manufactory details (wire binding missing from grip), in its steel scabbard (pitted); a French 1831 model artillery sidearm, with regulation brass hilt including ribbed grip (blade worn and with some pitting); a Swiss sapper's sidearm, dated 1841, with fullered blade serrated along the back, and dated regulation brass hilt with ribbed grip, in its brass-mounted leather-covered scabbard (chape replaced); an American masonic knight's sword, by The Pettibore Mfg. Co., Cincinnati, with etched blade including owner's name 'Roy C. Smith', characteristic cast gilt-metal hilt with red enamel templar's cross and pommel formed as a close-helmet, in its plated scabbard with embossed mounts en suite, and three rings for suspension, complete with its leather travelling cover (worn, seam partly open) with tooled borders, the flap with escutcheon engraved with owner's details; a Spanish sword with earlier blade (pitted) stamped 'C:IV' on one side and 'V.I: 1800' on the other, and cast white-metal mounted hilt with spirally-grooved dark horn grip (split); together with a French cavalry trooper's breast-plate, dated 1828, with flanged edges bordered by hooks and rivets with domed brass heads (some rust patination) (7)
