A French Cavalry Trooper's Helmet And Cuirass
Late 19th Century

The first with brass-mounted steel skull, peak and neck-guard, embossed brass crest with Medusa head above a flaming grenade at the front, and tubular plume-holder (rust patinated and damage, fur covering replaced, brush and horsehair plume missing), the cuirass with turned edges bordered by dome-headed brass rivets, the breast-plate with applied multi-rayed brass plate engraved with crowned 'JN' conjoined monogram (worn, shoulder-straps and waist-belt missing); together with a continental trooper's helmet and breast-plate, the former with brass mounts including embossed frontal plate, the latter of waisted form faced in brass (split, some pitting overall) (5)
