A Turkish Breast-Plate (Krug)
Late 15th/Early 16th Century

Of steel, comprising a circular central plate and three smaller plates attached to it by riveted steel rings (some plates and mail missing), the main plate with flat central boss (minor damage) bordered by radiating flutes and incised with the Ottoman arsenal mark (tanğa) of St. Irene above, the neck-plate incised 'The Humble Surayya' in nasta'liq and 'The work of Ahmed' in thuluth (surface rust and pitting)
