A Fine Persian Steel Kulah Khud
Qajar, 19th Century

With domed skull decorated overall with linked cartouches gold-damascened with arabesques and foliage, the large central cartouches with bird-head finials and centred respectively on chiselled flowers and falcons, all against a ground of finely chiselled meandering flowering foliage and highlighted with silver-encrusted engraved florets, the rim bordered by elongated panels between quatrefoils, the former enclosing silver-damascened Persian verses, the latter each chiselled with a bird, fitted with threaded central spike of diamond section, adjustable nasal gold-damascened with designs of arabesques, two plume-holders en suite, and vandyked camail of butted rings
