Two Arab Saifs
19th Century

The first with broad curved fullered blade (minor areas of pitting) double-edged at the point, the forte crudely etched with stars on each side, silver hilt comprising faceted quillon-block with double langets and lobed quillon terminals, and grip chased with foliate borders and rising to a beaked pommel, the latter set with a filigree roundel on each side (knuckle-chain incomplete), in original fabric-covered wooden scabbard bound with silver ribbon, and with silver mounts en suite with the hilt including circular suspension mount pierced with a star on one side and carrying two suspension rings; the second of similar form, the blade cut with a double fuller along the back over most of its length on each side, and white-metal mounted hilt (some damage) embossed and chased with foliage and retaining its knuckle-chain, in original leather-covered wooden scabbard with white-metal mounts en suite with the hilt (2)
