A Turkish Yataghan
Dated 1226 A.H. Corresponding TO 1811 A.D.

With recurved single-edged blade cut with slender medial line along the back over most of its length to the point, each side inlaid in silver with elongated panels containing Persian couplets including in praise of the owner 'Serdengecdi Abdallah Agha', maker's name 'Muhammed Zadah Ahmad', the proverb 'no sword like Dhulfeqar', no hero like Ali' and the date, all in naskh and within designs of silver-inlaid symmetrical foliage, shaped gilt-copper filigree mount (incomplete) over the forte set with a piece of faceted blue glass on each side, grip-strap en suite and set with fluted ovoidal red corals (corallium rubrum), and 'eared' walrus-ivory grip-scales, in its wooden scabbard covered in black leather with wire seam along the inside, copper locket with silver throat mount, and copper chape with silver monster-head terminal
